Detailed NRA/CRPA Personal Protection Outside The Home Description
If you are pursuing a CCW, this course, NRA/CRPA Personal Protection Outside The Home,is the last classroom step for a CCW. It follows the NRA/CRPA Personal Protection Inside the Home Course which is a prerequisite for this class. The main focus of this course is the effective use of a concealed handgun for self-defense on the street. Included topics are concealment techniques and devices, presenting the handgun from concealment, utilizing cover and concealment outdoors. This innovative course includes presentation and movement, point shooting, instinctive shooting, low-light shooting, engaging multiple targets, and one-hand shooting. These skills and others presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack outside the home.
The course is divided into three parts levels. Part One is nine hours and teaches basic knowledge and skills that must be mastered to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Students spend several hours on the range and shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition during part one. Part Two is an additional five hours on the range and teaches more advanced shooting skills. An additional 115 rounds of ammunition will be shot. All time and ammunition requirements are a minimum estimate and may be exceeded. It is recommended students bring additional ammunition. A complete list of items students should bring to the class will be sent upon registration.
Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, other materials and a course completion certificate.
Part Three, the legal portion of the course presents a summary of California law concerning the use of a handgun for personal protection.
